The National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL) is an initiative of the Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD), Government of India.
The objective of the project is:
- To develop entire undergraduate engineering curriculum in a classroom lecture mode in five major disciplines, namely, civil engineering, computer science engineering, electrical engineering, electronics and telecommunication engineering, and mechanical engineering.
- To develop courses in basic sciences and mathematics.
All the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) together were entrusted with the responsibility of this curriculum development. About 240 courses have been developed and are available in web and video formats.
The project will cover more engineering disciplines and have greater content coverage for undergraduate and postgraduate programs.
The web courses contributed by IIT Bombay can be seen at http://www.cdeep.iitb.ac.in/nptel/. The full list of courses is available at http://www.nptel.ac.in/.
The video courses are available at http://www.youtube.com/iit.
They can also be seen on the Eklavya television channel (http://web.iitd.ac.in/eklavya/index.htm) which is an initiative of MHRD and IITs, with technical support from IGNOU.
